European University and the Embassy of France  Announce Essay Competition on "Georgia's European Future"

European University and the Embassy of France in Georgia, within the framework of Europe Days 2021, are announcing an essay competition on the topic "Georgia's European Future".

Rector of the European University Nino Taliashvili and the Ambassador of France to Georgia Diego Colas held a meeting with the media today.

According to the University, the aim of the competition is to popularize European values and raising awareness among the pupils about the European integration process, the importance of Georgia's rapprochement with the European family, and the understanding of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law as European values.

Pupils of both, private and public schools will have the opportunity to participate in this competition.

“This competition, considering the pandemic will be held online, as for the details of the competition, how the winners will be announced, how they will be awarded, etc., all this will be published publicly on the University website," said Nino Taliashvili, Rector of the European University.

According to the Ambassador of France to Georgia Diego Colas, the graduating pupils will take part in the essay competition announced together with the European University.

"I'm glad to be at European University today. We have a long-standing relationship with this university. In 2017, together with this university, we attended a course in international law founded by the International University of Strasbourg, last year, as part of this cooperation, we published the first legal dictionary, and of course, we will continue this cooperation this year as well, this year’s collaboration will be reflected in the competition we are announcing together. Within the framework of the essay competition, 11th and 12th-grade pupils have the opportunity to express their opinion on the topic: "Georgia's European future".

The winners of the competition will be awarded prizes set by the University, and the chosen contestant of the French embassy will spend one day at the embassy.

We are pleased to collaborate with the University as part of the competition.

The winner will be revealed on 9 May 2021, Europe Day, and I hope that a pandemic would allow us to hold a prize-giving ceremony at our residence.

I would like to remind you that Europe Day was founded on May 9, 1950, when Robert Schuman, the then French Foreign Minister, proposed to establish the European Coal and Steel Community”, which subsequently laid the foundation for the reconstruction of Europe and the European Union.

I declare once again that I am pleased with the long-term cooperation with the European University," said the French Ambassador.

The competition will be held on the 1st of March, in the presence of supervisors specially appointed by the University for this purpose. Essay titles will be announced to pupils on the day of the competition.

A special commission will be formed, which will be composed of at least 3 members, where one member will be an external evaluator.

Based on the competition, the winners of I, II, III places will be identified, who will be awarded prizes established by the "European University".

All participants of the competition will be awarded a joint certificate from the European University and the “Embassy of France.”
