Conference “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Practical Implications in TESOL Classroom” at European University
On April 25, 2026, European University and the English Teachers’ Association of Georgia (ETAG) co-organized the conference “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Practical Implications in TESOL Classroom” at European University in Tbilisi, Georgia, in partnership with the US Embassy Tbilisi and the British Council Georgia.
The conference was generously co-funded by the US State Department through its English Language Program, with the support of Regional English Language Officer Mr. John Silver and the US Embassy Tbilisi.
The opening ceremony featured welcome remarks from Mr. Alan S. Purcell, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy Tbilisi; Nino Taliashvili, Rector of European University and Zaza Purtseladze, Director of the British Council Georgia.
Dr. John M. Levis of Iowa State University delivered the keynote address on L2 pronunciation trends.
The conference brought together English language teachers from universities and schools across Georgia, with this year’s edition placing special emphasis on school teachers, who formed a significant cohort of participants and presenters.
This year’s focus on AI was particularly timely, as artificial intelligence represents both the most transformative trend and the greatest challenge facing education today.
The program featured two blocks of concurrent sessions across six rooms and three parallel workshops delivered by English Language Fellows John Jordan and Michael Vessio from the US Embassy Tbilisi, alongside a session led by Dr. Levis.
Presentations addressed AI-enhanced teaching, academic integrity, inclusive education, AI literacy, and curriculum design, equipping educators with practical strategies for navigating AI in the TESOL classroom.
By organizing similar events, “European University,” within the framework of its mission and vision, contributes to the improvement of educational practices in Georgia and supports the integration of the latest technologies into the teaching and learning process.
