Paata Davitaia successfully graduated from Sokhumi Branch of Tbilisi State University, faculty of Law.

In 1992-1993, he worked as a detective of the military police in A / R of Abkhazia; in 1995-1996 - an investigator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia; in 1996-2001 – chief state advisor of the Supreme Council of A / R of Abkhazia, in 2001-2002 -  Assistant to the Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court, head of the staff. In 2002-2003, he was the Minister of Justice of A / R of Abkhazia, in 2003-2004 - deputy chairman and first deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of A / R of Abkhazia. In the same years he was a deputy chairperson of the department of Penitentiary System Monitoring of the Ministry of Justice. From July 2004 to October 2004 he was the Deputy Prosecutor of A / R of Abkhazia; since 2004, he is the Deputy Director of the Federalism Institute in the Caucasus issues (Hanover); in 2009 - Chairperson of the Commission on Military Aggression and Other Acts of Russia against the Territorial Integrity of Georgia. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Parliament of Georgia and member of the party "Powerful Georgia", a member of the Temporary Commission on Territorial Integrity Issues. In 2008-2012 he was a Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.  From 2010 to 2012, he was a Vice-President of the party “European Democrats” of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.  In 2009-2012 – a member of the Committee on selecting Judges of the Human Rights Court of the Council of Europe.

Paata Davitaia is a real member of the Academy of Information and Social-Economic Relations; Veteran of Georgian War and Military Forces; Author of 15 scientific papers and 2 monographs. Since 2006, he is the chairman of the European Democrats of Georgia -political unification of citizens.

Currently, he is directing the course on Constitutional Law on the faculty of Law, Humanitarian and Social Sciences of European University.
